Application Status

Hello All!
Sorry for not updating in while. The holidays has made it a little tough to sit down and write. Speaking of the holidays, we had an amazing time in Boonville with the Emmons gang. We got to visit Coach B and also my Great Uncle Glenn. We got a lot of cool gifts but it was even better to be home for a little while. The greatest gift I received was probably the circular saw I got from my Dad. Thanks again for that!

Also, Tanie has graduated from college!!! I am so proud of her! I cannot believe we are both out of college and ready to take on the world ;) I think she is going to be bread winner of the family with the talent that she has. I still wonder how I have an amazing woman like her!

I have some news updates from the Peace Corps side of my life. I have finally turned in all my paperwork to Washington D.C.! That is a such a relief to me. All the paperwork that I turned in ended up being over 50 pages. Talk about an exhausting and expensive process, but in the end (if everything turns out alright) will be worth it. I just got conformation back from them through email that my Dental work has cleared. That was the most iffy part of the medical review. So I had a little dance/coffee party this morning about this. It is crazy how this looks like this is coming together. We could be oversees in 6 months! Wow!

With Tanie we are still waiting on her last dentist appointment on the 15th of January. Then we can copy all her paperwork then send it. (If you click on the picture on the left you will see my current status. This picture comes directly from the peace corps website.)

Thanks for reading and trying to understand our long and exciting process.

Matt and Tanie :)

More News

Matt has gotten through his dentist appointments now and he is just waiting to get his dental ex-rays back so that he can send in his medical packet! He does not need to have his wisdom teeth taken out, so that's a relief. I still have my upcoming appointments though so I probably won't be able to turn in my packet until the end of January. Once those are turned in we will just have to wait for our invitation which will tell us which country we are going to be in during our service.

I found this great blog post that talks about being a Christian in the Peace Corps. I used it in my big final Youth Ministry project/presentation that I did very well on yesterday!!
Here is the link to that: My Portion

Also on another note, Matt's Sister Rachel was got married to Emanuel Sarikie this last Thanksgiving weekend! The wedding was beautiful and it was a lot of fun to spend time with Matt's family. Matt and I are looking forward to getting back down there sometime for the Christmas holiday.

Also my finals week is coming up on the 15th of December so I am almost Graduated from College! Yay! I'll be really excited once I get through all of my finals and projects that this have left to do.

Thanks for reading!!

More Updates

Hello Friends

We have both have had a little update with medical stuff. Tanie recently went the dentist and discovered she has a couple of cavities :( I feel bad for her but it is okay. She has a dentist appointment to fill those nasty holes coming in a month. I have a dentist appointment on the 18th of this month. I am worried about my wisdom teeth getting in the way. I hope I do not have to get them taken out.

But some good news on my side is that I went to the heart doctor and he gave me a really good report. He explained to me that my heart should not be a problem in the next few years and doesnt see it causing any problems for my peace corps tour! That is huge to me and I am excited that the report came back so well.

Tanie and I love to goto the park and we wanted to share some pictures with you.

Grace and Peace

Park Fun!

Hey! This last weekend was a lot of fun. Matt and I went to a local park that has some trails. We decided to hike off of the trail for a little while and we were almost attacked by a huge squirrel with a nut in its mouth. It was hanging off of the side of a tree and it started to hiss at us and it looked like it was going to jump, so we got back on the trail. :-) Crazy squirrels! This week is my mid-terms so I'm pretty busy getting ready for tests and doing projects. I can hardly believe that I am halfway done with my last semester of college!

Life and Peace Corps Update

As I write to you I have a 24 hour halter monitor on for my heart. This is more Peace Corps checking into nothing. The thing is very itchy! Only a few more hours to go. But anyways we are getting closer and closer to our goal to the Peace Corps.

Last night we went to a youth group event and it was awesome! There were over 100 kids there tonight. We had a hay ride and we played a huge game of capture the flag. This game involved flour bags and hitting kids with them. Some call it abuse others call it fun ;) The best part was just talking to the kids and seeing what they thought of the night.

I am currently in the process of getting hired at best buy for some extra money that we can put into the college loans. All I am waiting on is my drug tests results. It has almost been two weeks. That is a really long time for drug test results. I will be selling computers. To be this will be a really exciting job. I love computers and love people so I think this will be awesome!

Tanie is getting closer and closer to her graduation date in December. She is very busy with school, her job at the bank, and marriage! We will both be relieved about getting school finished so we can get out there and do what we want.

Well that's all I got for now. Hope to update soon!

Peace Corps Update

Hey all I just wanted to update you guys on the progress of our Peace Corps Process. First of all I wanted to say that we were nominated a few weeks back. What this means is that we have our foot in the door in a location that they found that might suit us. They said that we might be going to Asia! I know that does not narrow it down a ton but it sort of does because the Peace Corps only goes to a few places in Asia. These places are China, Philippines, Cambodia, Mongolia, and Thailand. They also told me that with the line of work that we will be doing that most of the time that China is out of the picture but that is not for sure. Next is what we would be doing while we are over there. We would be doing two projects Youth Development and Teaching English. Both of these sound very cool to me. I will be excited to see how those projects would work out.

We are now in the medical process. This is known to be long and drawn out. We have had several things done already. We were both checked out by a doctor where they had to do a full medical examination. Checking for anything that might hinder us from going. We had blood tests done, urine tests done, three vaccinations and even more. My next step is going to the heart doctor for my minor heart condition. I have a doctors appoint this coming Friday so wish me luck. Also one other minor thing that might have to happen is getting my wisdom teeth taken out but that depends of if the dentists sees it as necessary. I hear they are pretty strict about this because they do not want any trouble while you are on the field. I understand why this may be but it seems frustrating since I have not had any problems with them. I have a dentist appointment this coming month so we will see what they think about this.

We will continue to post updates when we get them. Thanks for reading!

The World of Blogging

Hello and welcome to the first of many updates of the happenings and life adventures of the Emmons family! I would hope to update once a week but sometimes life gets in the way. We hope to be updating about several things. Things like the Peace Corps process, life in general, current events, or just ramblings. I hope to include pictures from time to time as well as our spice of awesomeness!! Blogs are made to do such things.
